Acceptable Use Policy
This is a translation. The German version is legally binding.
This policy sets out what you may not use Mesh and your account on onmesh.chat for. It applies to Mesh Free and Mesh Plus and supplements our Terms of Service. Where the two conflict, the Terms of Service prevail.
You are also responsible for use by anyone you give access to your account. In rooms and spaces you create and manage, you make sure, within your rights as an admin, that no content under section 1 remains there.
1. Illegal content
You may not store, distribute or make available content through our services that violates applicable law or the rights of others. This includes in particular:
- child sexual abuse material,
- terrorist content within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2021/784,
- incitement to hatred, calls for violence and symbols of unconstitutional organisations,
- infringements of copyright, trademark and personality rights,
- fraud, phishing and accounts that impersonate other people, companies or authorities,
- illegal gambling and trading in illegal goods.
How we deal with reported content is set out in § 8 of the Terms of Service.
2. Network and security
You may not:
- attack our or other systems, including (D)DoS, brute force, port and vulnerability scans without the operator's permission,
- distribute malware,
- circumvent our security measures or the limits of your tier,
- access other users' accounts or data.
Agree tests against our infrastructure with us in advance.
3. Spam and harassment
You may not send spam, that is messages or invitations in large numbers to recipients who do not want them, through Mesh itself, through other Matrix servers or through bridges. Creating accounts in bulk, harassing or threatening other users and getting around a suspension with a new account are also prohibited.
4. Resources
The limits of your tier for uploads, calls and participants are set out in § 5 of the Terms of Service. Bots and automated processes that put an excessive load on our servers are prohibited, as is storing files that are not part of your communication, for example as a backup or file storage.
5. Bridges
Through bridges you use accounts on WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and Discord. Comply with their terms as well. You may not use bridges for spam, mass messages or automated advertising.
6. Access credentials
Protect your password and your recovery key from access by others. If you notice misuse of your account, contact us immediately. We then block access and help clear things up.
7. Reporting violations
Report violations to abuse@dss-net.de, in German or English. Useful details are the Matrix ID or room concerned, date and time with time zone, and evidence such as screenshots. We cannot read the content of encrypted rooms, so please send us what the report is about. We confirm receipt and review every report.
8. Measures
We respond to a violation in proportion to its severity:
- We notify you of the violation and set a deadline to fix it.
- We block individual content, rooms, bridges or your account.
- We block without prior notice if third parties, other users or our infrastructure are at acute risk, for example during ongoing attacks, malware or spam waves.
- For serious or repeated violations, we terminate the contract in accordance with § 10 of the Terms of Service.
We inform you of every measure without delay, stating our reasons. You can object; we will then review the case again. Where required by law, we report criminal content to the competent authorities.
9. Changes
We update this policy when new services are added or the legal situation changes. § 14 of the Terms of Service applies to changes.
